When a dental emergency arises, you need a fast and effective procedure from a trustworthy dentist. Boulevard Dental Group is one of Palmdale’s premier dental practice and offers 24/7 emergency treatments. We know that pain never sleeps and are committed to relieving the pain in the quickest time possible.
If you’re in need of emergency treatment, call our Emergency Dentist Palmdale Office at 661-403-5239 now. In the meantime, here’s everything you should and shouldn’t do in an emergency.
Treating dental emergencies quickly and effectively is the best way to prevent permanent damage and avoid the need for more expensive procedures. As such, leaving the problem untreated or undiagnosed is one of the worst things you could do.
An equally poor decision would be to take ibuprofen or other painkillers as they are anticoagulants that can lead to intense bleeding among other problems.
When you encounter a painful experience, reducing that discomfort should be top of the agenda. While the natural thinking is to call an emergency dentist, it may be possible to overcome the bulk of those issues without leaving home. Here are just some steps that can be taken to treat some of the most common problems.
Use warm water to rinse the mouth before using dental floss to remove lodged food particles. Cold compresses can be applied to the cheek as a way to treat swelling. Follow this up by seeing a dentist at the most convenient time.
As a temporary measure, stick a piece of sugarless gum into the cavity or use an over-the-counter dental cement. See your dentist as soon as possible.
Try to slip the dental crown back over the tooth, preparing the surface with an over-the-counter dental cement or denture adhesive to hold it in place. Book in with the dentists when you can.
Remove and store any broken pieces. Use warm water to rise the mouth and treat bleeding by holding a piece of gauze to the affected area until the bleeding stops. A cold compress can be applied to the cheek or lips to stop the pain and swelling. Remember to thoroughly rinse the broken pieces of tooth too.
If a wire breaks or sticks out of a bracket or band and is poking your cheek, tongue, or gum, try using the eraser end of a pencil to push the wire into a more comfortable position. If you can't reposition the wire, cover the end with orthodontic wax, a small cotton ball, or piece of gauze until you can get to your orthodontist's office. Never cut the wire, as you could end up swallowing it or breathing it into your lungs. See your emergency dentist palmdale as soon as possible.
Temporarily reattach loose braces with a small piece of orthodontic wax. Alternatively, place the wax over the braces to provide a cushion. See your orthodontist as soon as possible. If the problem is a loose band, save it and call your orthodontist for an appointment to have it recemented or replaced (and to have missing spacers replaced).
While the potential severity of this issue demands that you see a dentist quite soon, you can usually wait until an appointment is available. In the meantime, rinsing the mouth with mild salt water several times throughout the day should ease the pain.
When bleeding occurs, there are three things you can do. Use a cold compress to the affected area, rinse the mouth with mild salt water for several minutes, and apply pressure to the area using a gauze. If the bleeding still doesn't stop, you’ll want to see a professional ASAP.
While those temporary measures will serve you well until you see our emergency dentist palmdale, there are some situations in which immediate treatment is needed.
If the tooth falls out, getting seen within an hour gives you the best shot at saving the tooth. Likewise, extruded and partially dislodged teeth should be seen ASAP. Other times to seek emergency treatments include excruciating pain, constant bleeding, and issues that are causing breathing problems.
When you feel that your life could be in danger, it’s better to call 911. If, however, it’s not life-threatening but needs immediate treatment, call us at 661-403-5239.
