Dental implants can be more difficult to successful input for older people. Although there is no age limit for implants, the jaw bone can deteriorate as you get older. The bone needs to be strong and healthy for dental implants, so this can affect whether you are a suitable candidate for implants. Fortunately, bone grafting palmdale allows us to grow new and healthy bone. Using these technological advancements, Boulevard Dental Palmdale is able to place implants more successfully. The two treatments that we use are sinus lifts and ridge augmentations.
A sinus lift or sinus augmentation procedure adds bone to your upper jaw by your premolars and molars. The bone is grafted between your maxillary sinuses, which are on either side of your nose, and your jaw. The surgery involves lifting the sinus membrane so that there is space for the bone.
The sinus lift procedure is designed for when there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw. It is also used when the sinuses are too close to the jaw, and there isn't enough space for a dental implant. You might need to have a sinus lift procedure if there is less bone in the back of your upper jaw than your lower jaw. You might also have had periodontal disease, which caused bone loss, or your teeth might have been missing for a long time, which results in insufficient bone for implants.
To perform a sinus lift, the dentist makes an incision in the gum tissue on your upper jaw where the dental implant will be. They will move the gum tissue to access the bone underneath and cut the bone to push it into your sinus cavity. Doing this raises the sinus membrane to make space for a bone graft. The bone grafting material is then inserting, and the gum tissue is stitched.
Ridge augmentation involves putting a bone graft where the roots of your tooth were before. The purpose of the procedure is to recreate the shape of your jaw and gums, similar to how it would have been when you initially lost your tooth.
You might need to have a ridge augmentation procedure if you have had periodontal disease or your missing teeth have led to jaw bone resorption. It is also used for some people who wear removable dentures that don't give an adequate fit.
The dentist first removes the tooth, if there is any. Bone grafting palmdale helps to repair the alveolar ridge, and the dentist then places the gum tissue back over the socket and stitches it in place. When the socket has healed, the ridge will be ready for a dental implant.
The bone used for grafting procedures mostly comes from your own body. It is often taken from places like your chin or jaw, or your hip or lower leg. This is known as autogenous bone. Sometimes bone from a cow or a cadaver might also be used.
