Wisdom Teeth Palmdale

Wisdom Teeth Inside a Mouth

Wisdom teeth palmdale are the third set of molars, which usually emerge when you are a teenager or young adult. For some people, the wisdom teeth come through without any problems and help to support the existing teeth. However, many people experience issues with their wisdom teeth coming in awkwardly. They can also be impacted. If wisdom teeth are causing problems, they need to be removed. Boulevard Dental can help you if you need wisdom tooth extraction, so call our office today for an appointment.

Why Remove Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth can grow in at an angle, come up under the second molars or partially come through. Crowding can lead to other teeth shifting without the wisdom teeth palmdale being removed. Another complication is infection, which might occur if the teeth are partially impacted. An infection can lead to severe pain, swelling and even a fever. If you have pain in your jaw or at the back of your mouth, it's important to see a dentist as soon as you can.

Before doing any dental procedures, an X-ray will determine the position of your wisdom teeth. The images are used to decide how to proceed with treatment. Sometimes, allowing the teeth to erupt naturally is the acceptable. However, if the teeth won't correct themselves, an oral surgeon will probably need to remove them.

Extraction of the wisdom teeth is often the best choice to prevent pain or other problems. Teenagers can have an easier experience because their mouths heal quicker, due to the roots of the teeth being less developed.

The Process of Wisdom Tooth Extraction

The dentist can use one of several methods for removing your wisdom teeth. If they have already broken through the gum, the dentist might be able to extract them in the same way as they would with any other simple tooth extraction. However, if the teeth are impacted, they need to be surgically removed from the gums. A local anesthetic numbs the area so that the tooth can be removed. You can also have multiple wisdom teeth removed under general anesthetic, meaning you are asleep or sedated. Other options include nitrous oxide (known as laughing gas) and intravenous medication.

The gums are stitched up after extraction. You will be given some aftercare instructions, such as eating soft foods for a few days. It's important to watch out for excess bleeding or fever and return to your dentist if necessary.
