Osseous Surgery Demonstration

What is Osseous Surgery?

Often referred to as gingivectomy, osseous surgery palmdale is a number of procedures used to reduce the size of pockets on your teeth and remove disease-prone bacteria and tartar build up. Though it is called osseous surgery, it is more often thought of as an intensive cleaning process.

At Boulevard Dental, Dr. Gobrial performs osseous surgery and you can call us to discuss your options on 661-947-7737.

Reasons for Choosing Osseous Surgery

Osseous surgery palmdale is a common procedure. It is used to treat advanced periodontal disease as well as remove deformities and pockets in your teeth. This is good for your health as well as achieving a better smile.

Preventing Bone Loss

Periodontal bacteria causes a response in your immune system that may cause jaw bone loss. This may lead to further loss of teeth. Surgery may help prevent periodontal disease progressing and reduce the chance of bone loss.

Reduce the Spread of Bacteria

Oral bacteria can cause serious conditions such as respiratory disease and heart disease. This is because the bacteria can spread quickly through the body. The best way to prevent these conditions is to remove the bacteria and tartar from your teeth as soon as possible.

Take Care of Your Teeth

Brushing and flossing are more difficult when your teeth are already in a poor condition, by reducing the size of gum pockets, it will be easier to clean your teeth properly.

A Brighter Smile

Broken teeth and rotting gums are never going to give you the most attractive smile and many people suffer with low confidence and even depression as a result of their look. Osseous surgery palmdale can help to restore a brighter smile and give you back your confidence.

The Procedure

You will be given a local anesthetic before the surgery to numb the area. Dr. Gobrial will then cut the gum surrounding the affected teeth to access the roots and the bone below.

The first procedure is to scale the roots of the teeth to remove tartar. The bone will then be reshaped using a drill and hand tools. Some bone may be removed or bone grafting may be necessary to restore the look of your teeth and gums.

The gums will then be returned to their position over the bone and sutured into place to heal. A dressing or periodontal pack bandage will then cover the area.

Dr. Gobrial will normally prescribe painkillers and a chlorhexidine mouthwash after the surgery. Some bleeding and swelling is completely normal, and may be managed using an ice pack on your cheek. However, if you are concerned about excessive bleeding or swelling, you can call the office for more advice as soon as possible.

After the surgery, you will need to attend follow-up appointments and you must stick to a strict set of maintenance instructions to ensure that the healing process is as quick as possible and further infections are avoided. This means that you must be prepared to take excellent care of your oral health at home - especially in the days following the procedure.
